    Karnataka-Land Of Natural Wonders

    History :
    In ancient times, Karnataka was called Karunadu, literally meaning elevated land. The evidence of Maurayan dynasty in Karnataka is the Ashoka's rock edicts found in the state. The great Chandragupta Maurya ruled the state and adopted Jainism at Shravanabelagola. After him many other dynasties like the Chalukyas, the Hoysalas and the Vijayanagars ruled it. These dynasties added value to the cultural and spiritual value of the state.


    At Aihole in Karanataka, the Chalukyas constructed the early Hindu temples in India. These temples are regarded as the architectural wonders. Similarly, the Hoysala's who ruled from the 11th to the 13th century, built more than 150 temples having excellent architecture.

    Located 1000 m above sea level, this bustling capital city of Karnataka, has a perpetual holiday atmosphere, thanks mainly to its picnic weather. Founded in 1537 by a local chieftain Kempe Gowda, Bangalore has seen much and imbibed even more. Rapid industrial growth has not taken away Bangalore's old-world charm

    Belgaum:Belgaum, ancient `Venugrama' (`Bamboo village') was the capital of the Rattas who shifted to this place from Saundatti during the close of 12th century. The place has a fort inside which there is the famous Kamalabasti built in 1204. It has a fine huge protruding lotus (Kamala) in its ceiling and this beautiful structure in Chalukyan style houses Neminatha Teerthankara image.

Two of its pillars have Kannada inscriptions in Nagari scripts, one of 1199 of Ratta King Kartaveerya IV and another of 1261 of Sevuna (Yadava) Krishna.
    The Jamia Masjid in the fort was built by Sher Khan in 1585-86. There is a Dargah of Khanjar Wali near it. The fort has Chalukyan Pillars spread all over.


    ChikmagalurChikmagalur situated in southwestern part of Karnataka, it is nestled in the Baba Budan hills. Chickmangalur literally means, 'The Younger Daughter's Town.' Legend reads that this town had been given as a dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, the famous chief of Sakrepatna. Chikmagalur is a calm, serene town full of scenic surprises. Hills, valleys, streams and snow-white coffee blossoms are all here to woo. In and around Chikmagalur there are beautiful hill stations and places of picturesque beauty.


    GokarnaGokarna is a ancient temple town and center for Sanskrit studies.It is located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka State. Gokarna means " Cow's Ear "- It is believed that Lord Shiva had emerged from the ear of a cow.
